A research and development team, in collaboration with an automaker, recently launched an air-cooled engine for electric motorcycles. This innovative design combines an air-cooling system with motor cooling, effectively addressing the range reduction caused by motor overheating during extended riding. The engine employs a distributed cooling layout, using temperature sensors to adjust the cooling fan speed in real time. This keeps the motor operating temperature below 60°C, increasing range by 30% compared to traditional electric motorcycles and reducing charging time to 1.5 hours. Currently, the air-cooled engine is installed in two mainstream electric motorcycle models and is undergoing road testing in Hainan and Yunnan provinces, receiving positive user feedback. Notably, the team has also developed a lightweight version, 18% lighter than traditional models, suitable for small electric tricycles. This technology is expected to achieve large-scale application by early next year, driving the electric two-wheeler industry to overcome range limitations.
